Hello Alin,

Here is that document with the changes noted in BOLD.

In the one area where almost everyone gets confused on the index.php file,
I put some notes in RED BOLD. As soon as you e-mail the instructions on
that file, I’ll incorporate that into PowerLinkGenerator instructions and
you should be good to go!

One final thing you you should add to avoid unnecessary tech support
e-mails is put a section in the instructions entitled. If Install is
Unsuccessful Take These Steps Before Contacting Tech Support:

Steps To Full-Install Power Link Generator

  1. Download the PLGEXE.zip file to your desktop.
  2. Use WinZip to extract the 'plg' folder, also saving to your desktop.
  3. You should now have a folder on your desktop named 'plg'. This is your directory. If you change the name of this folder, remember to replace the ‘plg’ with the new name.
  4. Using your FTP program upload the 'plg' directory to your web-site under your www or public_html folder.
note: You may also download to any sub directory if you are going to be using "add-on" domains or "sub" domains.
  5. I would remove #5 altogether because it is not actually a step; it’s just a warning and most people read this and become puzzled, wondering if they should do something.
Don't change the name of folder to 'recommends' or any other name that you want to be used for saving campaigns.
Your links will look like this: 'http://www.yoursite.com/recommends/campaign',
even if the name of the folder from archive is 'plg'.
  6. Using your FTP program change the permission to 666 for these five files:

    » adminsetting.php
    » campaigns.txt
    » id.txt
    » lifehits.txt
    » statistics.txt
  7. Using your FTP program create a folder called 'recommends' This is your admin directory. You can use any name for this folder, such as, presents, announces, etc. If you use 'recommends' your links will look like this: 'http://www.yoursite.com/recommends/campaign’ If you use ‘presents’ your links will look like this: 'http://www.yoursite.com/ presents/campaign’ PLEASE NOTE: You will be asked to provide the name of the admin directory in the final stages of the setup.
  8. Using your FTP program change the permission to 777 for the folder you just created.
  9. If you want to use the new system for campaigns (.htaccess based) upload to your admin directory, these two files: ".htaccess" and "index.php" files. You will find the correct .htaccess file by using your FTP Progam and going to the PLG folder and then clicking on the ‘upload’ folder. Once there, upload the .htaccess file into the admin directory that you created. DO NOT use the .htaccess file located in the PLG folder. Remember, use the one in the upload folder! The ("index.php" file will be generated by the script on install, you need to save it on your computer and then upload it to server inside your admin directory and ".htaccess" file it is located in "upload" folder inside the installation kit). Here’s where you lose a lot of people, including me. You should explain exactly where to find the ‘index.php’ file. Since its not the index.php file in the PLG folder, where is it? Which folder do we go to? Also, you stated that we must save this file to our computer first and then upload it. Is this step critical? If so, you need to make that clear. After you include the instructions on where to get the ‘index.php file and clarify what to do once you find it, let me look at your instructions and see if the average person will comprehend them first time.                                                                              OLD SYSTEM: When a new campaign is created the script will make a new folder, named as campaign name, inside of admin directory and a index.php file inside the new folder!
NEW SYSTEM: When a new campaign is created the script will not make the folder or index.php file because the redirect will be made using a ".htaccess" file and a single "index.php" file located inside the admin directory!
  10. Look inside the 'plg' folder to confirm that the file '.htaccess' was uploaded. If was not uploaded and you can't upload it using your ftp program than rename the file 'htaccess', that should be in plg folder on your web-site, to '.htaccess'.
  11. Run the setup.php file from you browser (http://www.yoursite.com/plg/setup.php)
NOTE: the link above might be different based on name of the 'plg' folder (if you changed it), protocol that you are using (http, https or other), location of 'plg' folder (public folder or a subfolder that is not an "add-on" domain or "sub" domain)
  12. Follow the instructions during setup.
  13. If you choose to use the new redirect system and the campaigns are not redirecting properly change the permission for admin directory to 755 using your ftp program!
  14. Enjoy the script.

USING MYSQL DATABASE:

(you can set this up, after you have installed the script to your server !)

First go to your cPanel, login with your username and password, and then go to MySql databases, create a new database and a new user.

There is an option to add the user you just created to the database, with all privileges, so do that. Now you have the empty database, and a new user assigned to it.

In Power Link Generator, in Edit Profile, you will have to add the info you just created. The Mysql Host is usually "localhost". If you have the database on another server, you have to put that server there.

Mysql Username is the username you connect to your host, followed by "_" and by the user you just created. Example: You log in to your site with the username "test", and you created a user for your database called "mysqlusername". In the Mysql Username field from Power Link Generator you will have to put "test_mysqlusername".

For Mysql Password, you put the password you created for the user.

At Mysql Database Name you put the data just like for the username. Example: The username you use to connect to your site is "test" and the database name is "power", the database name will be "test_power"

For Mysql prefix, you put anything you want. This is if the database you use for power link generator is not empty, and there might be a table with the same name that power link generator uses. In this case, you can put "power" or "plg".

You are all set, hit "Update" and the script will attempt to create the tables. If is unsuccessful, it will return an error.

Install Successful! Congratulations!
